Learning Support
At Aldro we strive to ensure that every boy reaches their full potential and it is our aim to identify boys with any special educational needs as early as possible in their time at the school. The Learning Support Department is staffed by four qualified and experienced teachers who provide individually tailored lessons for each pupil that are specifically designed to tackle areas of particular difficulty and to boost self-confidence. Lessons take place during non-core academic time on a 1:1 basis.
For those boys for whom English is not their first language we can provide a specialist English as an Additional Language (EAL) teacher to further their understanding and fluency in English so that they have wider access to the curriculum.
Teaching staff are encouraged to liaise with the Learning Support Department and communicate any difficulties a pupil may be experiencing at any point during his time with us. Support and advice is given to all subject teachers across the curriculum so that the child’s needs are also supported in the classroom.
If parents feel that their son has a specific difficulty they are welcome to contact the school to make an appointment to discuss this with the Head of Learning Support who is available for consultation throughout the year and at Parents’ Evenings.
Learning Support and EAL lessons incur an extra charge. Details of the current charges can be obtained from the Headmasters PA Mrs Sandy Spall.
