Art
"He who works with his hands is a labourer,
He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman,
He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist."
St Francis of Assisi
Through Art and Design, pupils at Aldro are enabled to develop and express a greater understanding of themselves and the world around them through investigation of the work of a range of artists, craftspeople and designers, across cultures and through the ages; to enhance their abilities and imaginations and to find pleasure and enjoyment in expressing their creativity. They are encouraged to acquire the skills and techniques which in turn lead to particular ways of communicating thoughts and ideas with others.
At Aldro we:
- stimulate a lifelong interest in and enjoyment of the visual arts
- enrich the lives of individual pupils
- promote the pupils’ personal, creative, intellectual and social growth
- create opportunities for pupils to be active and interactive within the provision of a balanced programme
- enable pupils to respond creatively to the visual world
- develop art skills, knowledge and understanding
- encourage pupils to realise their full artistic potential
- provide enjoyable creative experiences
In the Art Department we aim to:
- enable children to record from first-hand experience and from imagination, and to select their own ideas to use in their work
- develop creativity and imagination through a range of complex activities
- improve the children’s ability to control materials, tools and techniques
- increase their critical awareness of the roles and purposes of art and design in different times and cultures
- develop increasing confidence in the use of visual and tactile elements and materials
- foster an enjoyment and appreciation of the visual arts and a knowledge of artists, craftspeople and designers
