Welcome to Aldro

Welcome to the Aldro website and thank you for your interest.  I hope that what you find here will give you a good insight into all that Aldro has to offer.

Aldro is a coeducational day and boarding school for around 200 children aged 7 to 13. Located in the picturesque village of Shackleford, just 30 miles from London, it offers full, weekly, and flexible boarding. Aldro welcomes both international students and local families seeking a rural education in the heart of Surrey.

The Aldro Difference

Warmth of Welcome

Right at the heart of Aldro life is a supportive and caring community. From the day you arrive, as a pupil, parent or member of staff, you are welcomed into the Aldro family and that sense of community and belonging far outlasts one's time at the school.

Academic Aspirations

Our children are inspired by passionate and enthusiastic staff who ensure they are nurtured, challenged, and fulfilled in equal measure. We are proud of our proven reputation of sending children to academically selective senior schools and achieving a high number of scholarships each year

Happy Children

With small numbers, Aldro never feels overwhelming. More like a small village where everyone knows you.

Breadth Of Opportunity

Our broad curriculum is carefully designed to provide academic rigour alongside exceptional opportunities in the arts, creativity, and sport.

Home From Home

Children discover what it feels like to belong to a family that stretches beyond their own.

Wonderfully Independent

We're independent which means we are not tied to a single senior school destination. Children leave us for a wide constellation of senior schools each chosen to suit their spark.

Aldro for Life

A guiding Aldro principle: nurturing curiosity, independence, resilience, and the joy of learning.

We can’t wait to meet you

Welcome to Aldro! Visit us on an Open Morning to experience our unique school environment, meet our Headmaster, teachers, and pupils, and discover what makes Aldro special. Stories & Endorsements

Discover the value of an Aldro education from members of our community as they share their unique perspectives.

“The moment we walked through the school gates we were sold. There was a buzz that was purposeful and rigorous yet relaxed and fun in a really special way. We could immediately envisage our son becoming the most spirited, authentic, and confident version of himself - exactly what we were hoping for in an education.”

Parent

"Aldro’s strengths lie in its exceptional teaching standards, nurturing family feel, and unwavering commitment to going above and beyond for every child. The school fosters a supportive and inspiring environment where children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. For us, it has truly been the making of all three of our children who are currently there—helping them grow in confidence, develop a love of learning, and embrace every opportunity with enthusiasm. It’s a school that genuinely cares and delivers on its promise to bring out the very best in every pupil."

Parent

“Our son walked out after his first day with a beaming smile which has rarely faltered since. I could not be happier with how Mr Carlier and his team are helping him become his best and most curious self while preparing him for the next stage - I just wish he didn’t have to leave in 18 months.”

Parent

“As our very close neighbour for over 85 years, Aldro has a long history of sending pupils on to Charterhouse and this route continues to be very popular. Charterhouse seeks to attract pupils who are academically ambitious, have a broad range of interests, who are kind and open-minded, and are prepared to give things a go. An Aldro education provides this and more, which is why Aldro pupils flourish and prosper at our School as we help them go on to become the great men and women they want to be.”

Alex Peterkin, Headmaster of Charterhouse

"We wanted a school with clear academic focus and Aldro met that brief in spades."
