We are delighted that you are considering Aldro for your son. We reopened for the Summer Term on 23rd April with an extension to our Distance Learning Programme. This includes a comprehensive programme of real-time lessons online, co-curricular activities and competitions, the Aldro Mentoring Programme, Assemblies and more. On the 1st June we were delighted to welcome our Form 6 boys back in to school.
We hope that our website gives you a flavour of what the school has to offer. We will be delighted to show you around just as soon as we can. In the first instance, please do get in touch with Mrs Charles in the Admissions Office.
We look forward to meeting you, albeit in the virtual world for the time being.
The majority of boys enter the school in Form 3 (age 7), although boys will be considered for Forms 4-8 if places are available.
Open Mornings take place every term and are a popular and good way to visit with the whole family, enabling prospective parents and pupils to see for themselves what makes Aldro so special. The first stage in the admission procedure is usually for parents to attend an Open Morning and/or arrange to visit the school and meet the Headmaster during term time. Once your son is registered (a Registration Form can be found at the back of the prospectus or download one from our website under Admissions/Registration) and once this is received, together with the Registration Fee, prospective pupils will be added to the admissions list and invited back for a Taster Day.
Boys should be registered by the September preceding the year of entry. (see Registration for more details). We write to parents of registered boys the year preceding entry with dates and information on the next stage in the admissions process.
The Taster Day
Registered boys for entry in to Forms 3 and 4 will be invited to attend an Taster Day which takes place in the month of November, a year prior to entry. Boys coming into Forms 3 and 4 will be required to complete some verbal and non-verbal reasoning tasks as well as some creative writing, and they will take part in art, music and games sessions. If spaces are available, taster days with assessments can be requested on an ad-hoc basis prior to joining the school. The boys sit age appropriate assessments, some of which are completed on a computer. Boys coming into Forms 5-8 also sit age appropriate assessments and time-permitting, join lessons and sport in the afternoon. We try to make the day as enjoyable as possible.
If either we, or the parents, believe that learning support may be needed, our learning support staff will be asked to contribute to the taster day. We require parents to alert us to any known learning support needs on the Registration and Entry Assessment Forms. Reports are requested from previous schools and should be received by early October (Forms 3 and 4), prior to the Taster Day. Current English, Maths and Reading Record books for Forms 3 and 4 are requested to be brought in on the Taster Day.
If you wish to register your son for a place after the taster day in November, please contact the Admissions Office who will make arrangements for your son to visit Aldro and have a taster day at another time, dependent on places being available.
Confirmed places will be offered within two weeks of the taster day. The parents of pupils offered a place are required to complete an Acceptance Form and return a deposit of £1000 to the Admissions Office. The deposit will be forfeited if the pupil subsequently fails to take up the place for whatever reason. This deposit will be refunded after the end of the final term (less any outstanding charges), or if a boy leaves giving one term’s notice, but is otherwise non-refundable.
