Admissions

We are delighted that you are considering Aldro for your child. We hope that our website gives you a flavour of what the school has to offer. We will be delighted to organise a meeting with the Headmaster and a tour of Aldro. In the first instance, please do get in touch with the Admissions Office.

The majority of pupils enter the school in Form 3 (age 7), although pupils will be considered for Forms 4-8 if places are available.

Our Taster Day for September 2025 Form 3 entry is: TBC

Open Mornings These would normally take place every term and are a popular and good way to visit with the whole family, enabling prospective parents and pupils to see for themselves what makes Aldro so special.  The first stage in the admission procedure is usually for parents to attend an Open Morning and/or arrange to visit the school and meet the Headmaster during term time.  Once your child is registered (a Registration Form can be found at the back of the prospectus or download one from our website under Admissions/Registration) and once this is received, together with the Registration Fee, prospective pupils will be added to the admissions list and invited back for a Taster Day.

Children should be registered by the September preceding the year of entry. (see Registration for more details). We write to parents of registered pupils the year preceding entry with dates and information on the next stage in the admissions process.

The Taster Day

Registered pupils for entry in to Forms 3 will be invited to attend an Taster Day which takes place in the month of December, a year prior to entry. Pupils coming into Forms 3 will be required to complete some verbal and non-verbal reasoning tasks as well as some creative writing, and they will take part in art, music and games sessions.  If spaces are available, taster days with assessments can be requested on an ad-hoc basis prior to joining the school.  The pupils sit age appropriate assessments, some of which are completed on a computer. Pupils coming into Forms 4-8 also sit age appropriate assessments and time-permitting, join lessons and sport in the afternoon. We try to make the day as enjoyable as possible.

If either we, or the parents, believe that learning support may be needed, our learning support staff will be asked to contribute to the taster day.  We require parents to alert us to any known learning support needs on the Registration and Entry Assessment Forms.  Reports are requested from previous schools and should be received by late October (Form 3), prior to the Taster Day.

If you wish to register your child for a place after the taster day in December, please contact the Admissions Office who will make arrangements for your child to visit Aldro and have a taster day at another time, dependent on places being available.

Confirmed places will be offered within two weeks of the taster day. The parents of pupils offered a place are required to complete an Acceptance Form and return a deposit of £1000 to the Admissions Office. The deposit will be forfeited if the pupil subsequently fails to take up the place for whatever reason. This deposit will be refunded after the end of the final term (less any outstanding charges), or if a pupil leaves giving one term’s notice, but is otherwise non-refundable.
