Admissions Process

Through the admissions process, we aim for you and your child to get a real sense of life at Aldro and most importantly, for them to love their every experience of Aldro.

Being broadly academically selective, our admissions process is guided by our desire to identify children who are able to benefit from our balanced and well-rounded education and to make a positive contribution towards the life of the school.

Our main entry points are Form 3 (age 7+) and Form 7 (age 11+) although pupils will be considered for other years of entry if places are available.

VISIT

Through a personal tour and meeting with the Headmaster, one of our Open Mornings or a combination of both.

Registration

Register your child with us ideally 18 months prior to the point of entry. We will contact you in the Autumn of the year preceding entry with dates and information on the next stage in the admissions process.

Learning about your child

To help us build the fullest picture of your child, we will ask you to provide a copy of your child’s latest, full school report at registration and will request a reference from your child’s current school prior to inviting them to join us for a Taster Morning.

TASTER MORNING

An opportunity for your child to experience a little of Aldro life for themselves, to meet their potential peers and members of staff, at the same time as taking our assessments.  Depending on the point of entry, this is either through a group or individual Taster Morning. Our Form 3 Taster Morning is typically in the second half of the Christmas term.

If either we, or the parents, believe that learning support may be needed, our learning support staff will be asked to contribute to the Taster Morning.  We require parents to alert us to any known learning support needs on the Registration and Entry Assessment Forms.  Reports are requested from previous schools and should be received prior to the Taster Morning.

OFFER OF A PLACE

Offers are made on the basis of the information provided from your child’s school report, reference, performance in our assessments, observations from staff and any interview.

ACCEPTANCE & DEPOSIT

A completed acceptance form and a deposit is required to secure the child’s place after an offer is made.

BECOMING A PART OF THE ALDRO COMMUNITY

Our aim is for you and your child to feel part of the Aldro community before your child steps through our doors on their very first day. We will stay in touch to provide you with all the information you need before starting at Aldro, provide you with regular updates on Aldro life and connect you with other families prior to joining us.
