Pastoral care & Wellbeing

At Aldro, pastoral care is not an add‑on but the heartbeat of school life, woven into every interaction and every aspect of a child’s experience.
We believe that children thrive when they feel known, valued, and supported, and our pastoral systems are designed to ensure that every pupil is understood as an individual.
This sense of being truly seen sits at the core of the warm, family‑focused environment for which Aldro is known.

Each pupil is supported by a strong and attentive network. Their Form Tutor is the first port of call and plays a vital role in their day‑to‑day wellbeing, while the Heads of Years work closely with the Assistant Head (Pastoral) and the Deputy Head (Pupils) to provide a consistent and responsive pastoral structure across the school.
Every child also has a personal mentor, ensuring they always have a trusted adult who knows them well and is there to listen, encourage, and guide them.
Wellbeing is at the centre of our pastoral approach. We offer a dedicated Wellbeing Room where pupils can pause, reflect, or regulate in a calm and welcoming environment.
A qualified school counsellor is available when deeper emotional support is needed, and our ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) provides targeted help to pupils who may benefit from understanding and managing their emotions more effectively.
Throughout the year, we run three whole‑school Wellbeing Days focusing on themes such as Belonging, Mind, and Body. These days encourage pupils to build resilience, develop empathy, and understand themselves and others more deeply.

Preparing children for an ever-changing world
Our PSHE and RSE curriculum equips children with the knowledge, confidence and resilience to stay safe, healthy and happy in an ever-changing world.
Through age-appropriate learning, pupils develop an understanding of important topics such as online safety, healthy relationships, emotional wellbeing and personal responsibility. We aim to prepare children not only for the challenges they may face today, but also for life beyond the classroom, helping them grow into respectful, informed and responsible members of society.
Our Christian ethos continues to guide the atmosphere of the school, cultivating kindness, respect, and a strong sense of belonging. We aim to create a community in which pupils support one another wholeheartedly, celebrate each other’s strengths, and feel part of a caring and joyful school family. As a prep school, our role is to prepare pupils for the next stage of their education and personal growth, and the positive feedback we receive confirms that our deeply embedded pastoral approach helps our pupils to flourish long after they leave us.
